Visiting Crater Lake

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States triggered by a volcanic eruption 7,700 years ago. Crater Lake is 1983 ft deep and one of the country's bluest lakes.

Day and annual passes can be bought at the park entrance.

When to visit Crater Lake?

The most popular months to visit Crater Lake are July, August, and September. That's when the park's roads, trails, and facilities are usually fully open. In May and June, you can drive to Rim Village, which overlooks the lake. From there, you can enjoy spectacular lake views on a clear day. But the road around Crater Lake and the park's North Entrance might be closed due to snow.

Crater Lake things to do

  • Rim drive - A 33-mile scenic drive that must be taken in the clockwise direction is a must-do activity at Crater Lake.

  • Hiking - There are multiple hiking trails in Crater lake providing beautiful views of the lake and the vistas.

  • Boat tours - Take a leisure 2-hour boat cruise around Crater Lake. Get up-close views of Wizard Island, Phantom Ship, and other natural formations.

Where to stay at Crater Lake

The Crater Lake Lodge is a great option inside the park.

Outside the park, there are hotels available in the 25-50 mile range. Our recommendation would be Running Y Ranch Resort or Resort at Eagle Point
